Why longer?

For many years, I was a reporter and magazine publisher/writer — but I always had a soft spot for new platforms and communications technologies. When local newspapers took a dive in the late ‘90s, I took quickly to blogs and similar forums. Most of my writing in the pre-Twitter era was in those formats.

Twitter is/was clearly an addictive medium, but also quite useful for those of us whose job is to try to capture and hold attention. And as someone who’s worked for 20 years in progressive policy and activism — on climate change, on clean energy, on wildlife and ecosystem conservation, on human rights, healthy childhoods, affordable housing, safe mobility, and integrated neighborhoods — I really need your attention!

Since it seems Twitter has run its course, while I’m slightly sad about it, I’m actually equally excited by the prospects of focusing more of that energy on longer writing. I hope those of you who follow me on Twitter will find this venue at least as engaging, stimulating, and … that it holds your attention :>)

Sign up for Longer Forms, and hopefully, over time, I’ll figure out a pacing and a set of topics that piques interest. My intent is to let the range be broad, based on my interests, but heavily biased toward “Actually, we can make the world a better place.”
